Rock the Parkway has become one of the largest and most popular half marathons in the Midwest! Hosted by Burns & McDonnell since its beginning in 2010, the Rock the Parkway half marathon and the 5K have sold out every year, and the 2016 event once again offers the features that have made it so popular:
Half marathon: 7:30 a.m.
5K: 8:00 a.m.
This year Rock the Parkway again will offer a wave start for the half marathon instead of starting everyone at the same time. Each participant will be assigned a starting wave based on the expected finish time entered during the online registration process. The starting chute will have eight different corrals; your bib number will indicate the corral you start in, and your bib will be color-coded to that corral. You will be allowed to move back to a slower running group in the starting corrals but not forward. Each wave will start by corral approximately 2 minutes apart, and the corrals will move forward after each wave starts. We are once again using chip timing for the start and finish, so regardless of which wave you start in, your start time will be when you cross the starting line.
To help ensure a smooth start, we will ask the 5K runners and walkers to line up according to pace to start the race, with the fastest runners up front and the walkers in the back. This process is less formal than the corrals and wave start used by the half marathon participants but is just as important to reduce congestion at the start and during the early part of the race, and enhance the race experience for all 5K participants.
